The legend of the Garden of Eden and the creation of mankind
In the holy books, it is said that in the "beginning" God created the heavens, the earth and then the angels. Then, he created all the plant species, the luminaries of the sky and all the animal species.
Finally, he created the first man whom he named "Adam". It is said that his body was formed by the work of an angel from the red soil of silt (clay) but it was God who breathed life into his face so that he became a living being.
Adam later felt very lonely although he had animals as friends. So God sent her a deep sleep and, from her rib, God formed the woman "Eve".
The land of Eden, a myth or a reality?
The Garden of Eden is described as paradise on earth. It is a pleasant place by its softness. There are planted all the trees which produce the best fruits intended for human nourishment, astonishing in beauty and fragrance.
The creator had planted the garden at the beginning, towards the eastern regions, in a place called Eden (delights in Hebrew) beyond Ethiopia or India.
Some critics have sought to identify the location of this paradise, which they consider to be a real place, geographically locatable on earth.
Isidore of Seville, speaks of it in his chapter on Asia and describes it as a pleasant, temperate place, but access to which is now closed to men since the expulsion of Adam. The garden would be guarded by an army of angels and surrounded by a barrier of flames.
